Yes, you may iron our silk pillowcase, but there are a few steps to take to avoid damaging the silk. Dampen the silk generously with a spray bottle first to minimize potential scorching of the silk fibres. Since silk is a protein-based fiber, it burns fairly easily if exposed to high heat. Flip the silk pillowcase inside out, and place a thin cotton press cloth over the pillowcase to limit direct contact with the silk fabric. Iron on the lowest possible heat setting and use a pressing motion, as opposed to back and forth.

Please do not put silk in the dryer. The heat and spinning motion can damage the delicate silk fibres. Instead, roll your silk pillowcase onto a towel first to get rid of excess water, then hang to air dry, away from direct sunlight. As silk is ultra lightweight, we find it dries very quickly, even on colder days.

The gentle cycle is essentially the washing machine’s version of handwashing. It is typically low agitation, low spin, and uses cold water. Aimed to be less abrasive, it helps to prolong the lifespan of materials that need extra care and keep your garment in the best possible shape.

If your machine doesn’t have a “gentle cycle”, look for  “hand wash” , “wool wash”, or “delicate cycle”, as sometimes it differs from machine to machine.

To maintain the shine and softness of silk, we recommend using a specially formulated detergent for silk or a delicate laundry detergent. These are usually ph-neutral, do not contain harsh chemicals, bleach, artificial fragrances or enzymes.

No, regular laundry detergents are often too harsh on silk.  Even if they are unscented, non-coloured, or safe on sensitive skin, it does not mean safe on silk. Regular laundry detergents are typically made to remove stains or tough grimes on everyday clothes, and so contain powerful cleaning agents that are not suitable for silk fibres.

Yes, it is highly recommended to place your silk pillowcase into a wash bag before putting it into the washing machine. It keeps delicate items, such as silk, well protected from tears, snags or other damage, allowing your silk pillowcase to last longer. However, if you do not have one, don’t fret, you can also flip the pillowcase inside out and place it into an old pillowcase.
